From 2002 to 2007 As one of its initial projects, the Wolodymyr George Danyliw Foundation worked with the Center for Russian and East European Studies (CREES) at the University of Toronto. The Foundation completed the following projects:

  1. An annual full credit teaching fellowship in the memory of Wolodymyr George Danyliw focusing on contemporary Ukrainian studies aimed at final year undergraduate and graduate students. It represented the only political science course about an independent contemporary Ukraine in Canada. Dr. Taras Kuzio occupied the fellowship position and offered courses through the department of political science at the University of Toronto. Dr. Taras' course offerings touched on a theoretical analysis of societies that are undergoing the process of democratization and transition to a market economy, with a particular focus on the Ukraine on the post-Soviet era and comparing the Ukrainian experience with the experience of other nations in Central-Eastern Europe and Latin America.
  2. Annual lectures in the memory of Wolodymyr George Danyliw on different aspects of contemporary Ukraine, hosted by distinguished speakers in the fields of politics, economics, government and culture.

The foundation also engaged in instituting other projects in accordance with its mandate, such as providing grants to scholars to conduct research and write books about pressing issues facing Ukraine today. The first grant, made soon after the Foundation was established, was to Dr. Taras Kuzio, a Resident Fellow of CREES, at the University of Toronto, to write a book on Crimea.

The Foundation also conducted workshops, courses, conferences and seminars for members of the public who wished to deepen their understanding of the Ukraine.
